Accidents Happen Everyday

Accidents happen everyday.  You drop a glass, you bump into someone in the hall, you may even fall down and scrape your knee.  In the big picture of things these accidents are all very insignificant and don’t stick with us very long if at all. But sometime there is an accident that may change your life; one such type of accident is a Car Accident.

On Saturday we came to work like we always do, we unlocked cars and we got ready for whatever the day would bring.  We greeted clients in our award-winning service and sales department just like any other Saturday.  One such client that came into our sales department was not unlike many others, they were interested in looking at a brand new Honda Civic.  The young man was accompanied by his father and they had a number of questions and were interested in all that the Honda Civic had to offer.  Much like most of our clients safety is something that is important when making a buying decision, who wouldn’t at some level be interested in how the vehicle would be able to protect the driver and passenger in the event that there was an….. accident.

The salesperson made sure to go over all the safety features including but not limited to the ACE Body structure that helps absorb energy in a front on collision and disperses it around the vehicle. ACE does so much but more about that later.  The sales professional also made sure to talk about the front and side airbags along with the HondaLink Assist.  HondaLink Assist.  HondaLink Assist is standard on many Honda models including the Civic EX, EX-T, EX-L and Touring models. The HondaLink® Assist* feature which can enable you to request help in the event of a collision using a paired compatible cell phone. After a collision that results in an airbag deployment, the system will automatically attempt to connect with an operator and send the vehicle’s location. Once connected, you can also talk to the operator to give an account of your situation.

Our client and sales professional moved through exploration portion of their trip and decided that a test drive would be a good idea.  Dad was very interested in how the vehicle would handle and wanted to make sure his son was comfortable and would be safe in the Civic.  As the trio set off on their short trip around the block all was going well until there was an… accident. Travelling on a two lane road at 25 mph a vehicle in the oncoming lane drifted left of center traveling at 35 mph and struck our trio.  The impact was fast and solid and the Honda Civic performed beautifully.  There was no time to avoid the collision, our driver did all they could but the accident was inevitable.  Both front and driver-side side airbags deployed right on cue.  The ACE body structure worked as it was engineered to work and no one inside of the vehicle was seriously injured.  Our trio was wearing their seat belts and have some soreness and a few bumps but all were able to exit the vehicle under their power.  One of the most amazing things in how the ACE body structure kept the engine compartment intact.  The Civic accepted the energy and and crumpled in all the right places.  When you look at the engine compartment by itself there is hardly any notice of an accident.

We understand that this accident could have been at a much higher rate of speed but we are confident that The Honda Civic would perform at an extremely high level.  We are not only proud to sell and service Honda’s but we are also proud to own them and have our families ride int them.  Accidents happen everyday.

Buckeye Honda Going Greener

igo_green_by_digitalphenomBuckeye Honda has been doing business in Lancaster, OH since 1984 and we understand how important we are to the local community.  We also understand that the larger community is as important as the local community and we want to do everything we can to help preserve the environment.  Following American Honda’s lead on becoming a more environmentally conscious company we are making a huge change in how we take care of a few things around the dealership.

goats2In recent years we have announced an extensive recycling plan, our own waste oil burners that keep oil out of landfills and produce clean and efficient heat source for the dealership, and a number of other processes and procedures to do our part to help the environment.  Today Buckeye wants to announce out Largest Green Effort Ever… GOATS!  Yes goats!  We  plan to use goats this year to handle all landscape management projects. If this is a success we plan to spread this initiative to our other locations in Lancaster (Buckeye Toyota) and Columbus (Buckeye Nissan) with the possibility of renting them to others in the area.goats

Goats are eco-friendly, they eat unwanted plants and invasive weeds and they are super cute.  Buckeye will start building the goat operation on the same property that houses the Honda dealership. “We already have the land and it only makes sense that we build the barn on the property.  Before all of the other businesses came to this area we were located goat3in the middle of a farm field and we were able to retain our commercial agriculture zoning from the township and the state.  This means we will be able to have the goats, and any other animals we need and the best part is we don’t have to put up additional fencing.  Since the zoning was in place before the other businesses came in we are grandfathered in with open grazing.  It might be a little difficult for people driving through the lot or even trying to get to Walmart but in the end our grass will be shorter and goats are cute” says Scott Thomas,  General Manager for Buckeye Honda

Buckeye does have an opening for 1 full time goat herder and 1 part time assistant.  Applications can be sent through our website at  Experience is necessary.

Texting while driving has become a very serious problem and needs everyone’s attention.   At Buckeye Honda and Toyota we love our clients and we love seeing them come into the dealership for service, sales or even to just say Hello!  We are hearing stories almost every day about an accident or near accident from our clients and associates caused by distracted driving.  You wouldn’t believe what some of our delivery vendors, parts drivers and porters have seen in their daily travels.

There is no message so important that you have to read it or respond to it… IT CAN WAIT.  There is no Facebook status so important or a meme so funny that it can’t wait… IT CAN WAIT.  At Buckeye we urge you to pledge not to text and drive.  If not for yourself how about that van with a family headed in the other direction that you won’t see because you were looking at your phone.  IT CAN WAIT.

If you are in a vehicle with a driver that can’t wait you are responsible to tell them to stop.  This can be hard to do, but would it be easier to do than having to look at a parent that lost a child because you didn’t?  Here’s some scary statistic:

  • If you text and drive, you’re 23 times more likely to have a car crash.
  • Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field.textdrive-sign1
  • 11% of all drivers under 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted.
  • According to the Harris Poll, 49% of drivers with cell phones under the age of 35 send or read text messages while driving.
  • 60% of drivers use cell phones while driving.
  • 57% of drivers rate themselves as better than the average driver.
  • 42% of young adult drivers are very/somewhat confident that they can safely text while driving.
  • 68% of teens and young adults disagreed that it is easy to text while driving and still pay attention to the road.
  • 49% of adults say they have been passengers in a car when the driver was sending or reading text messages on their cell phone.
  • 36% of teens say they have been involved in a near-crash because of their own or someone else’s distracted driving.
  • 78% of teens and young adults say they have read an SMS message while driving.
  • 71% of teens and young people say they have composed/sent SMS messages while driving.
  • The United States Department of Transportation notes that cell phones are involved in 1.6 million auto crashes each year that cause a half million injuries and take 6,000 lives.
  • A study from the University of Utah indicated that the reaction time of a teen driver using a cell phone is the same as that of a 70-year-old driver who is not using a cell phone
  • According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting while driving is six times more likely to cause an auto crash than driving when intoxicated.

There are a number of other statistics that will just astound you but we hope this got the point across.  It Can Wait… it really can.

donttextanddriveTexting while driving has become the number one driving distraction for many people. Drivers need to be aware of the dangers and keep their attention on the road, not on their cell phones or other mobile devices.

Think you can text and drive?  Try it on the it can wait simulator.  It uses your smart phone and a computer screen so you can see how well you can do it.  We didn’t make it past the second text before we were pulled over.  TRY IT HERE!

Trade It In -VS Selling It Yourself

thursdayShould You Trade or Sell Your Used Car?

Trading Your Used Car
Trading your car is usually the quickest and easiest way to get rid of it. In fact, the moment you decide you’re ready for your next vehicle, any dealer is likely happy to take your current vehicle off of your hands.

If you are considering trading in your vehicle, ask the dealer for an estimate. The dealer will assess the condition of your car, its age, and other factors to determine a fair trade value. Trade-in values can always be negotiated, or you can simply accept what the dealer offers. When you reach an agreement, the amount the dealer gives you for your trade-in will be deducted from the amount you pay for your new vehicle.

That sounds simple enough. So why don’t more people trade? Dealership trade-ins get a bad reputation because consumers believe they get less than their car is worth. Trade value is 8655707489_cfcabe49d3_msometimes lower than the amount you could sell the car for yourself, but by trading in you avoid significant perils. You save time, effort and potential post-sale headaches because the dealer assumes the risk of purchasing a used car.

Selling Your Used Car
If you plan on selling your used car, be wary of the work involved in this process. Preparing your vehicle for sale will take time and maybe even money for things like cleaning product and minor repairs.Once the veh10734604043_ed89ae74e7_micle has been cleaned and fixed up, you’ll need to determine its value. Kelley Blue Book is a good starting point, but remember that this is simply a suggested value. You will still have to deal with negotiation and be prepared to take less than that in a private sale if you intend to get rid of it quickly.

Most importantly, carefully consider the liability involved with a private sale. There is a chance that something could go wrong with the vehicle you’re selling. For example, an unforeseeable circumstance like the transmission going out a week after you pass the vehicle onto its new owner.  As a seller, you could be held accountable and potentially face legal action for this. This is a worst case scenario, but you need to be aware of such possibilities and prepared to face them if you are going to sell your car privately.

Whether you decide to trade or sell your car is up to you, but it’s important to start the process with proper research.  To learn how much your current vehicle is worth  contact us at Buckeye Honda or Buckeye Toyota and let us take a look at your vehicle.  We can go over all of your options in a timely and professional manner.
