Rhythm on the River presents THE SPIKEDRIVERS  July 31 @ 7:30 pm| Freerythmonriver

Bicentennial Park, 233 Civic Center Drive, Columbus, OH 43215

In 2003 a new sound sprang up in the Rust Belt; a raucous, down-and-dirty sound, an intoxicating and gritty sound that pulled people in droves to dance floors across the Midwest. It was the sound of The Spikedrivers playing their unique blend of swinging, bluesy, upbeat, country-fried rock ‘n’ roll. Front man Jesse Henry’s unique and down-home song writing meets the electrified ruckus and wild precision of the backing band similar to what might have been if Louis Prima had led The Band. After performing for over a decade, The Spikedrivers have firmly established themselves as an Americana cult favorite with the unique ability to grab hold of an audience and turn them instantly to avid fans.

Creative ways of reusing discarded tires

thursdayWhat happens to your old vehicle tires when they are discarded? You would think that with all the tires that get worn out year after year, there wouldn’t be anywhere to put them all. Well, you might find it interesting all of the things that old tires are being turned into. It’s something the folks here in the Columbus area – and everywhere – can appreciate. Who knows, maybe your old Honda tires might even come back to you in another way after you put new tires on your vehicle in Lancaster.

One of the most intriguing ways that old tires are being re-purposed might be as sandals. As it turns out, after your tires are done getting your car from A to B, they may find a use getting you from A to B as a pedestrian. One of the most prevalent companies in the U.S. is called Detroit Treads, which turns 35,000 tires a year into flip flops.  Detroit treads also make rubber mats and the money made is going into making Detroit a better city! tires

But sandals are not the only thing that tires are being converted to these days. In Sweden, tires are being turned into parquet-type flooring. In India, outdoor furniture is appearing with what was previously tire rubber.

You may have noticed playgrounds that had soft material that looked suspiciously like tire rubber. Well, that’s likely exactly what it was. Companies like Hertz have been working with Liberty Tire Recycling to use discarded tires on playgrounds, parks and even roadways. Yes, tires once used on the roads could turn into the road itself.

Here at Buckeye Honda, we are happy to hear stories like this. It buys right into the Honda brand way of being – where the environment is of utmost importance. In addition to making efficient vehicles with breakthroughs like Honda Earth Dreams technology, the brand is very supportive of other “green” initiatives as well.

So the next time you are looking at some sandals or a playground take a closer look, you might be surprised.

Test Drive Tuesday: Magic Seat?

testdrivetuesday

If you’ve researched the Honda Fit at all, then you’ve probably heard about how much room it has for a small car. In fact, this is something that we’ve talked about at great length in the past. But do you know why the Fit can so easily conform to so many different passenger and cargo situations? The answer, very simply, is the Honda Magic Seat. The designers of the Fit went to great lengths to develop a seat that can adjust to so many different modes. We realize this doesn’t answer all of your questions just yet. So, what is the Honda Magic Seat? Let’s take a closer look.
This hatchback has a black belt in versatility. Whether you are carrying passengers, cargo or both, the Fit has four unique configuration modes so you can get just about anyone or anything wherever you need it to go.

Utility Mode

Fold down the 2nd-Row Magic Seat®
and the inside of the Fit becomes a cavernous cargo container with 52.7 cu ft of volume. For a small car, that’s room for some serious freight[1].

[1] Carrying too much cargo or improperly storing it can affect the handling, stability and operation of this vehicle. Follow applicable load limits and loading guidelines.

Long Mode

If you fold down the right side of the rear seat and fold back the front passenger seat, you can haul gear up to 7 feet, 9 inches in length. Crazy to think something that long can fit in a sub-compact car.

Tall Mode

Sometimes you need a little extra cargo height, and folding up the Magic Seat® gives you nearly 4 feet of room, top to bottom. That’s a cool trick that comes in pretty handy at times.

 Refresh Mode

If the only place you want to go is to sleep, you can turn your Fit into a mobile relaxation space. Take off the front head restraints, fold back the front seats and let the chill time begin[1].

[1] Only use Refresh Mode when the vehicle is safely parked. Return the seat and head restraint to their original position before driving.

So Your Car is Frozen, What now?

servicesaturdayNo one likes to wake up to a frozen car.  Whether it is frozen locks, door handles, windshield or radiator, a frozen car is an unwelcomed surprise in the morning.  You need to be extra careful when you are defrosting a car, and your dealership can help you with a plan.  What should you do if your vehicle becomes frozen?

snowyFrozen Radiator

If you do not take the proper precautions with your radiator, you will wake up to an ice cube in the morning. A vehicle needs a 50-50 water-antifreeze mixture to prevent the problem.  What should you do if the water is frozen? If you can, push the vehicle into a garage so that the radiator can thaw.  Once the engine, radiator and hoses are thawed, use caution when starting the car.  First, put a 50-50 mix of water and antifreeze. You will need to inspect under the hood and the car for evidence of cracks and leaks.  The frozen water expands and can cause significant damage. If you do not have a garage, try using a hair dryer.

Frozen windshield

NEVER use hot water on your windshield, or your car at all for that matter.  If you pour hot water on your windshield, the glass will crack and leave you with an even bigger problem that you started with.  Turn on your car’s defroster much earlier than usual.  You can also scrape a small area near the defroster vent to encourage the windshieldprocess along. To prevent your windshield wipers from freezing to your windshield, consider wiping rubbing alcohol across the blade the night before.

 Frozen door locks

Again, no hot water.  If you have a lighter handy, heat the key before putting it in the lock.  When you insert the key, apply pressure to unfreeze the lock as the key slides in.  You can also try using a drinking straw.  Insert the straw into the frozen lock and block into the straw.  The goal is to use your warm breath to melt the ice.

 Frozen door

If your doors are frozen shut, try a few tricks. Push on the car door as hard to break the ice around the seal; chip the ice away from the seal and the door handle; use a hair dryer, but remember that electrical appliances and water can be dangerous; or use a commercial de-icing product to help you get in

Is your car ready for winter?  Bring it to Buckeye Honda and leave the preparation to us!
