DIY Matchbox…errr Jar. DIY Thursday

DIY Projects from Buckeye Honda in Lancaster OhioIt’s Thursday at Buckeye Honda and that means time for a little DIY project.

This project is super duper easy and super duper useful.  It could be used to spruce up your kitchen or garage, it could be for that guy that loves to BBQ and Grill in the backyard… guy sounds familiar….hmmm anyway.  Tt also makes a great gift from the kids for that guy that likes to cook in the backyard especially if one of his other gifts is a new grill or smoker!  Now for those of you that don’t fit this category it is always a good idea to be prepared for a storm induced power outage or maybe a zombie apocalypse or something like that.

You can use a number of containers for this project.  Baby food jars work well, just make sure the lid can remain tight so you don’t get any moisture inside to mess up your matches.  Water = Bad especially if you are raising Gremlins but that is for a different article.

You will need:

  • Container
  • Strike Anywhere Matches – They make strike on box matches… DO NOT BUY THESE THEY WILL NOT WORK… you want strike anywhere matches.
  • Sandpaper
  • You might need some glue
  • Cute labels and ribbon if you are into that stuff

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  1. Clean and dry the jar
  2. Cut out your sandpaper to fit your lid
  3. Glue sandpaper to lid
  4. Fill Jar with matches
  5. Put on cute labels and ribbon

Much better looking than that old cardboard box that you had them in, am I right?  You know I am… go ahead admit it… if you don’t I’ll feed your Gremlin after midnight!

O.K. in the theme of full disclosure I feel it necessary to mention that the matches that you see in the picture are the wrong ones.  Those are strike on box matches.  Again, you need strike anywhere matches.  Never send a Gremlin to do your shopping!
