Rhythm On The River Saturday Friday Aug 16

Columbus Recreation and Parks Department welcomes a variety of performing artists to Bicentennial Park for the Rhythm on the River series. Featuring everything from bluegrass to blues to ballet and more, attending a Rhythm on the River performance is a great way to spend summer evenings with family and friends. These free outdoor performances take place at the Bicentennial Park Performing Arts Pavilion, a state-of-the-art venue with architecture that reflects the design of the Scioto Mile Fountain.

rustedroot

Performing this weekend is one of my favorites… Rusted Root!  Formed in the early 90’s by singer/guitarist Michael Glabicki, Rusted Root’s worldly style quickly charmed fans of roots music and world rock. To date they have released 7 albums and sold over 3 million records worldwide. After debuting in 1992 with the self-released Cruel Sun, Rusted Root signed with Mercury Records and released the 1994 platinum selling breakthrough When I Woke, which featured the massive hits ”Send Me On My Way,” and “Ecstasy” and “Martyr.” Their huge success allowed the band to tour with Santana, The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, HORDE Festival and, perhaps most notably, the highly coveted support role on the landmark Jimmy Page/Robert Plant reunion tour.

Rusted Root will bring a show that will have you dancing in your seats and maybe make you get up and dance a little on your feet.  If you have the opportunity to take in this free show you won’t be disappointed.

WaterFire Columbus w/ MojoFlo Friday Aug. 16

What is WaterFire Columbus?  Beginning at dusk, floating bonfires illuminate the Scioto River downtown as crowds gather to enjoy music and entertainment.  WaterFire Columbus’ mission is to provide a unique spectacle that brings family and friends together while enjoying music, bonfires and riverfront entertainment in Downtown Columbus.

Amphitheater seating at Genoa Park will open at 6:30 p.m. The performing partner will take stage at 7:30 p.m. followed by the lighting of more than 30 braziers at 8:30 p.m. After the Scioto River is ablaze there will be another performance at 9:00 p.m. and the evening will conclude at 10:00 p.m.

This weeks performers are one of my favorites: MojoFlo!  MojoFlo was named Best Local Band in 2012 and they put on a fantastic show.  When it comes to entertainment, MojoFlo brings it; from drums to horns, guitars to vocals and an on-stage chemistry that is infectious.  If you are looking for that perfect date night event or even a night out with the family I recommend WaterFire w/ MojoFlo – You will be entertained and impressed!
