DIY Thursday: Beat The Heat With These Splash Balls!

DIY Projects from Buckeye Honda in Lancaster OhioIt’s HOT outside but you didn’t need me to tell you that.

When it’s this hot outside it reminds me of when I was a kid and we didn’t care what the temperature was.  We played outside and it was always a special treat to get to throw water balloons at each other.  The problem is water balloons come with some inherent problems. 1. When they are gone they are gone. 2. When you are done you have all of these little rubber balloons to clean up and nobody wants to do that. 3. Balloons are not that great for the environment because of the rubber that just gets thrown away or left in the yard isn’t all that bio-degradable. So now that I am a parent (still a kid inside) what am I to do…

BRING ON THE SPLASH BALLS OF FUN!

Here is what you are going to need:

Some sponges – you can find them at the grocery store, dollar store, hardware store.  Don’t buy the ones with the scrubber pad on one side – ouch.  Also just buy the cheap ones.

Scissors

Rubber Bands or Zip Ties

Bucket

Sense Of Humor and some ZEST FOR LIFE!

OK the last one isn’t mandatory but come on we are making SPLASH BALLS OF FUN!

How To Make It:

Cut the sponges into strips by making two cuts longwise.  When you are done you should have three strips per sponge.

Now make 3 stacks of strips – 2 or 3 high.

Grab the stack in the middle and then wrap the rubber band or zip tie around the middle and make it tight.

Now rearrange the strips to make a more uniform shape. *POOF* You did it!

Now put the splash balls in the bucket and fill with water in the yard.  Ready — Set — Throw!!

When you are done put some water back in the bucket and rinse out the balls and leave someplace where they can dry!
