Foodie Friday: Summertime Floating!

foodiefridaylogo2It is officially the first day of Summer and we could not be happier.

When I think of summertime I think of grilling out, catching lightning bugs, sitting around a campfire and ROOT BEER FLOATS!Today we are going to make some root beer and orange cream floats.

What You Need:  ice999

Root beer/Orange Soda/ Plain Cola – Make sure you have enough.  You can buy the designer brands or just buy a 12 pack of one of the major brands.  It’s less about the root beer and more about the fun!  Cola and Chocolate Ice Cream go well together!

Ice Cream – Now I prefer to go with a little better quality of ice cream but let’s face it ice cream is awesome, pick one and go with it.  If you want to mix things up a little go with a chocolate ice cream with your root beer or swap out the root beer for cola.

Whipped Cream (optional) – You can use the stuff in the can or make your own and put a dollop on top.   It’s a little more effort but if you are trying to turn it up a notch it is well worth it.

Adult Version

Add a shot of Bourbon or Whipped Cream Vodka to your root beer float to kick it up a notch.  You can also add some adult “flavoring” to the whipped cream if you are making your own..

Step One: Pour some root beer in the bottom of a cold glass (put the glass in the freezer for 10 minutes to make cold)

Step Two: Add a large scoop of ice cream to the glass

Step Three:  Pour remaining root beer onto ice cream… it is going to FOAM and that is part of the awesome that is Root Beer Floats.  Let the foam subside and add a little more root beer.  If you pour the root beer down the side of the glass the foam will be less.

Step Four: Add Whipped Cream

Step Five: Enjoy… some like to drink the root beer out of the float then eat the ice cream while others start with the frozen foam and then eat some ice cream slowly while it melts into the root beer… anyway you do it will make your day a bit better.
