Today we are highlighting Parts Driver and Artist- John Rice for Buckeye Honda’s Team Member Monday!
John was born in Kentucky but he has called Lancaster home for over 30 years now. John has been with Buckeye for almost 15 years and has held a couple of different positions from Sales, Photographer, Detail and now John is the parts delivery person for both Buckeye Honda and Buckeye Toyota. John’s primary duty in delivering genuine Honda and Toyota parts to body shops and repair facilities all over Central and Southeast Ohio including our Buckeye Nissan store located in Hilliard Ohio.
John has led a very fascinating life and has a lot of stories to share. When he was a young man in high school, John was a standout basketball player that was recruited by many national powerhouses like The University of Kentucky where he met the NBA coaching legend and current general manager of the Miami Heat – Pat Riley. John eventually took his talents to East Tennessee State where he was guaranteed a scholarship so he could complete his education.
John has always been into music and actually owned a record located at Neil and King Ave just off The Ohio State University Campus, called The Village Ear. As Johnny tells the story, “there wasn’t a lot of money in it but man was it fun.” John says that his favorite music is The Blues citing Stevie Ray Vaughn and Albert king as his favorites. “My favorite song would have to be Texas Flood (also known as Raining Down In Texas) by Stevie Ray Vaughn” says John.
John is also an artist working in paints mostly. You can see some of Johns work throughout the dealership as well as a few shows that he is highlighted in around town. To tell you what kind of great guy John is, one day in the showroom there was a little girl (3 yrs old) at her father’s desk. She had come into the dealership that day with her father so he could finish a bit of work and they were going to go get some lunch. While she sat at his desk she drew a picture on a white piece of paper and asked if she could give it to John. John took the picture and thanked the little girl. That night John went home and took to his canvas and painted the same picture she had made for him and brought it to work so the father could take it home to his little girl. She was so happy to receive the artwork and it still hangs in my home today.
When John is not at Buckeye he is spending time with his lovely wife Holly, painting, enjoying nature or cheering for his Cincinnati Red. John has 4 adult children looks forward to being able to see them when they are in the area.
When asked what his favorite food is John did not hesitate, he likes American Comfort Food like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. He also enjoys a nice three cheese omelet with a spicy bloody mary when the occasion arises. John and I spoke with Chef today and he has assured us that he is going to come up with something for John real soon.
The next time you are in the dealership and you see John say “Hello!” and take a look at some of his artwork that can be found hanging around the dealership!!
